The need to use every night out as an excuse to spend money
on prepared food is definitely a modern phenomenon. At one time people would go
out to the pictures or the pub, or wherever, and then they’d go home. They
might occasionally call for a cheap bag of chips on the way, but that was
usually it.
Now it seems that wherever you go, you have to round off the
evening by stuffing yourself full of fat, sugar and monosodium freggin’ glutamate.
I swear this is going beyond a social convention and becoming a cultural
neurosis.
I think I’m in a nadgy mood again. Actually, I know I am. I
just counted five good reasons why.
