So then, what did dear old JJ learn from the New Year
experience?
...that society is one big social club of which he’s no
longer a member. He left voluntarily and has no desire to rejoin, but it gets a
bit cold on the outside sometimes.
...that true Romantics live under an unliftable curse. By
the very essence of their basic natures, they are forever precluded from having
that for which they perceive the greatest need.
...that little boys never stop needing a mother to run to
when things become too scary, even when they get to my age.
...that toughness is a state of mind that operates like a
thermostat: it only cuts in when it’s needed, and sometimes it gets lazy and is
late.
Onwards.
