The Right Sort of Humble.

There’s been a trend in recent years for sports stars and those in the entertainment industry to overuse the word ‘humble.’ When giving their speeches or responding to questions, they commonly reply ‘I’m humbled’ or ‘it’s humbling.’ It sounds disingenuous; it looks like an over-inflated ego making a poor attempt to hide itself; at best, it’s become a platitude.

I’ve just been reading about Malala Yusufzai, the 14-year-old Pakistani schoolgirl who continued to speak out for educating women, in spite of death threats from the Taliban. And now she’s been shot. Such courage beggars belief, and that’s humbling.
