I gather the Pope made a (dead) Native American woman a
saint today. The reason given was that some early missionaries were ‘impressed
by her deep spirituality.’ Well, there’s a turn up. I thought early missionaries
– and the Catholic Church in general – were more given to executing people of
deep spirituality. Isn’t it one of the seven deadly sins?
I think he made the story up. I think he’s just trying to
get some American brownie points in case he ever has the courage to visit and
face the wrathful victims of his organisation’s more unsavoury traditions.
