'...They come not Single Spies' #4

I went out at ten o’clock this evening to have my usual communion with the bats and trees, only to find the rural evening air being blasted by 50s rock ’n roll music courtesy of some bozo half a mile away on the bottom lane having a freggin’ party. It seems to me there are two sorts of people – those who want to make mindless noise and those who don’t want to hear it. Let’s face it, rock ’n might have been ground-breaking stuff when it was new and had some profound social relevance. But that was then, sixty years ago. Now it’s just mindless crap.

Or maybe it’s just me.

I have to agree, for the most part. There is still some good music, rock music, being made but you won't hear it on the radio or see it on MTV and the like. I gave up on that when i was about 17 and mostly just keep listening to stuff from the 90's. The newer music i listen to wouldn't necessarily be classified as rock.

And country is the worst. Last nights concert was accompanied by a redneck neighbor of mine revving the engine of his big truck in his drive way. Why? Why do that? I don't understand. Some sort of macho thing i guess.

And i'll be hearing more music blasting through the air tonight from the Fun Fest concerts... which tonight is thankfully the last night. Ever heard of Lynard Skynard? That's who's playing tonight. I didn't even know that there were any original members still around, but i guess the ones that are have scrounged up some substitutes to perform with. I am looking forward to seeing the fireworks after the show, though.

I thought about you when I heard the party music. 'Andrea had her Country, now I've got my 50s Rock 'n Roll.'

I don't understand why people think it's OK to foist their noise on others. To me, it's an invasion of my space. Sound is energy. We have to put up with some, but there's a limit.

I don't think redneck country would suit me. People revving engines is one of the worst.

Our heads must be occupying the same space. I was in a foul mood day before yesterday and wasn't sure why. I took a shower and when i came out Alex was playing some music and it just pissed me off, but of course i didn't say anything because there is no reason why he shouldn't be able to play music but then i started to think about how music is energy and how sometimes its a very personal thing, deciding to play music and subjecting others to it. I'm very sensitive to the energy and mood of music and have never liked having someone else decide what i'm going to be subjected to in that way. Unfortunately for me most people don't see or think about it that way. Most people just play whatever whenever and there, in most situations, isn't really anything wrong with that... its just me being weird and contrary and i have to just deal with it. Its life.

I was going to use the same phrase - a very personal thing. I never liked listening to other people's choice of music. Definitely the same space.
