A Conflict of Sensibilities.

There’s evidence that a family of bats has moved into my loft. I haven’t got the ladder out and checked yet, but there isn’t much doubt.

This causes a conflict. On the one hand, I love bats. On the other, I have a pathological dislike of anything invading my living space, however lovable it might be. I’m also none too keen on being woken every morning at 5.30 or thereabouts.

This has joined the growing list of Matters Requiring Attention.

Do bats get after mice? If so you may need to lend us one of your bats because we now have a little mouse who chews the garbage bags and leaves his little poops... Alex saw it running through the kitchen yesterday moring... then we found the turds. Must have just moved in.

Oh dear. Seems like we're on a parallel course again. The mouse needs to be dealt with before there are two of them and they breed. I suppose you know about humane traps? They catch the mouse without injury, but you have to release it quickly or I gather it will die of stress. There's also a minimum distance for release, which I'm told is a quarter of a mile. Otherwise they just come back.
