To your family you’re husband, or son, or father, or
grandfather, or brother, or uncle. To the person next door you’re the next door
neighbour. To the people you work with you’re a colleague. To those you serve
you’re the grocer, the sheriff or the priest. If you’re a rock star you’re an
idol to your fans.
But what happens if you remove everybody else from the
picture and stand alone. What are you then? This is a fundamental question, and
one to which I haven’t yet found an answer. And the root question is:
How much do we need the relativity of roles to have a sense
of identity?
