Parenting in the Capitalist World.

We gave her everything money could buy
~ from ‘She’s Leaving Home’

I’m utterly convinced that kids have no real use for everything money can buy. Give them that, and the best you can hope for is that they’ll still grow up well balanced in spite of your misguided attempt to turn them into selfish, spoiled, acquisitive adults.

On the other hand, give them love, time, straight talking and a healthy, home-cooked diet, and the chances are they’ll grow into adult humans worthy of the term.

Glad.

(Doing the one-word thing again. Where's the Indian person?)

Devoured by the Kali Ma?

Stop it, Andrea! You're shaming me with your expertise again. But...

Did you know that Kali has four (I think) different meanings depending the precise nuance of pronunciation?

I believe i've read something about her different names before but i don't recall ever knowing about the nuance of pronunciation. Its interesting.

You know how some languages are so nuanced based when it comes to the meanings of their words? Like some Oriental languages? I don't think i'd even attempt to learn and speak them... i'm sure i'd offend and insult a lot of people. Its interesting how some of the inflections we have in English/American English differ from other languages. Like how when we ask questions our tone sort of goes up and falls off at the end of the sentence. Sometimes i think some Irish people sound like they are asking questions while making statements. It was forever before i learned that they often say Us instead of Me. I was just confused for the longest. Why is that?

I've heard that the way the Irish use English is influenced - even now - by Gaelic idioms. Australians are the ones for turning inflections up at the end of statements. They turn everything into a question.
