I’ve been keeping up with the Google Help Forum strand on the big bad glitch that’s been hitting a ‘small percentage’ of blog users (including me.)
There seems to be a growing weight of opinion that, since we poor affected ones are such a small minority, Google won’t bother to put too much more effort into fixing the problem. They will let us drift quietly away because we don’t constitute a big enough proportion of the database. So where would that leave me?
Well, at the moment I can do certain things in Firefox and certain other things in Explorer. The problem is that the primary function – the making of posts – is only available in the latter, and Explorer doesn’t make it easy because it keeps messing up the formatting. On top of that, my version of Explorer is extremely crotchety. It’s very slow, prone to errors and omissions, and has a disturbing habit of crashing at inopportune moments. This all means that using Blogger is a bit of a pain, so if they don’t fix things in such a way that everything is functional in Firefox again, I might have to consider whether it’s worth continuing.
We’ll see.

I haven't had any problems with blogger until today. I made a post to Porcelain Pearl and now my layout is all wonky and i haven't been able to get it to go back to normal. Tumblr is looking more and more appealing to me. I actually made a couple of posts on my blog there today.
I hope things get sorted out for you soon. Obviously i like reading your blog.
That's really annoying, especially as Firefox is so much nicer to use. Is it possible for you to scrap this blog and make a new one, also in Blogger, that actually works? Not sure if you'll be able to import the content of this one, though. Or, you can try Wordpress, which I use. They offer many nice templates, etc. which are predominately free. You could always try it all out before going online and just leave it if you decide it's not what you want.
Tumblr is indeed nice, but doesn't one have to "go there"?
What do you mean by "go there"? Do you mean you can't just follow a blog or use a feed. You can subscribe to feeds with tumblr. The thing that annoys me most with that site is how complicated the themes and layouts are. If you don't know a lot about that sort of thing, like me, its hard to customize.
Andrea: 'Go there?' Don't know what you mean.
I've thought of switching to a different blog provider, but I don't know that I can be bothered. I've been feeling stale lately anyway, what with all the emphasis on problem after problem. And I've also noticed that I've been repeating things I said in earlier posts. I don't feel I'm interesting, informative or entertaining any more. The problem is that I've backed myself into a place without people, so the blog is all I have to talk to. Is that a good enough reaon to carry on? Maybe. I don't know yet.
I will just say that if your posts were dull or uninteresting i wouldn't be reading or commenting here. Nor do i think your blog has become repetitive. Things in life repeat themselves and many things are on going. If your blogging about your life then that is how its going to be. You are interesting, entertaining, and informative :o) I do hope you continue to blog as long as you feel up to it. And i hope that you do.
I was asking Della what she means by "going there."
I'm sorry Andrea for my lack of clarity, I do this a lot lately :) I just thought that one had to go to the Tumblr site first and from there look at a particular blog. So, is it actually more like Google and Wordpress?
Jeff, we keep coming back (i.e., readers to your blog) because you often have interesting, insightful things to say and sometimes a great sense of humor (sometimes :)).
I know how you feel though about running out of things to write about... I'm working more on my book rather than blog these days because I'm finding it more of a challenge to write longer stories with multiple threads, and feel I tend to repeat myself on the blog with the same ideas. However, I don't want to give it up either – it's like my living room, a cozy place to come back to.
Actually, Della, i think you are right about Tumblr. I think you do have to go to the site or directly to the blogs there to view them.
Already i'm liking Wordpress much more than Blogger. I like the dashboard, all the functions, its easy to find other bloggers there and easy for them to find you. Following your stats is a lot easier, too; there is no need for Feedjit. I just created my account, customized my blog, and made my first post yesterday and already i have a few subscribers, have had a lot of views, and have had 5 comments.
Well ladies, thank you for the lovely words of encouragement. Would you believe that Blogger is back at the moment? We'll see whether it stays back and how I feel about continuing. My big problem at the moment is that something is holding my attention almost exclusively and I'm finding it difficult to switch my mind to more general matters. How long it will last I really don't know, but the fact that you've hung in here won't be forgotten.
