Blogger’s latest improvement is a revamp of the comment
forms. In the process of doing that, the option to have follow-up comments
posted to a person’s Google e-mail account has been removed, or at least
overlooked. This means that if I make a comment on somebody else’s blog, I have
to keep going back to check whether there have been any responses because they
no longer get posted to my Gmail account.
And by an odd coincidence, Google have been told only today
that the changes to their privacy policy (which I greatly dislike) contravene
EU law. And by another coincidence, some of the information given in their
blogger stats is becoming hopelessly inaccurate.
I sense that Google has outgrown its ability to function
logically and with due regard to the needs of its users. Too busy worrying
about Androids, perhaps. Or Daleks. Maybe they’re seeking to prove the old adage that ‘every
man rises to his own level of incompetence.’

On a lighter note, I saw a comment on somebody else’s blog
that described a post as ‘fuking awesome.’ I did think of adding a follow-up
along the lines of ‘puking awesome, more like,’ but decided it would be
ungracious and possibly embarrass the blog author. Nevertheless, if you’re
going to swear, at least get the fucking spelling right.

Google has also changed their privacy policies on their Android powered mobile phones. Now they are keeping logs of all texts, emails, phone calls, etc. and selling the info to third parties. Not many people know about this, and Alex had an Android phone. He called our mobile provider and they didn't even know about it, but he was able to get a free phone out of it because he told them that he refuses to use his and have his info screened.
Should be illegal.
It seems that Google has stopped being the peoples' friend, but has become over-heavy and sunk into the mire of commercial exigency, in which anything goes if you can get away with it. I'm hoping the EU will put a spanner in their works.
