Have you ever noticed that some people look more attractive when they smile, and some people look less so? I’ve spent half my life wondering what that indicates about them. I suppose it must have something to do with the smile opening up a deeper part of a person’s nature.

I think so, yes. Smiles are a glimmer into the heart and difficult to contrive too because we can always sense a false one.
Jeff, your book came yesterday and I've begun it, though I'm still reading Peter Ackroyd's (retelling of) The Canterbury Tales and then my German novel that's sitting there. I've been drawn in to Odyssey now though and will keep you posted. It always amazes me how calmly and methodically you unravel a story...
