Changing Seasons and Funny Honey.

The verges under the hedgerows are almost devoid of bright colour now. Only the pink willowherb remains in profusion, and there’s the odd hemlock plant here and there adding a splash of white. The day of the berries is approaching. The elder is the first to show, and the hedgerows are awash with green berries waiting to turn black as the summer fades.

And on the subject of fading summer, the warm weather we’ve been having in Britain over the past few days has finally brought the butterflies out after a season almost devoid of them. The most prolific species is the Peacock, which is odd because they’re usually quite sparse.

What I found interesting today was that some of the hemlock flowers were covered with feeding honey bees. Does that mean there’s such a thing as hemlock honey? That’s interesting, isn’t it? No more searching out the clover variety; let’s go for the hard stuff!
