It interests me that the makers of certain TV programmes
feel the need to indulge in tautological titles. The first example that springs to
mind is CSI:Crime Scene Investigation.
I assume it’s because they have a low opinion of their potential audience,
believing it to be largely composed of people who are impressed by snappy initials,
but too dim to know what they mean. And that isn’t much of a testimonial for
the programme, is it?
