A Reuters news report says that, of all the European
nations, British and Irish couples take the fewest short breaks to celebrate
Valentine’s Day. And that, according to the report, makes us the ‘least
romantic.’ Not necessarily.
It could mean that we choose to express our undying
affection in different ways. It could mean that we’re the least prosperous and
have to opt for cheaper alternatives. Or it could mean that we’re the least
susceptible to commercial exploitation.
To be honest, I doubt them all, especially the latter. I
think we’re probably just the least romantic.
