Talking to the Grave of W McBride 1897-1916

It’s estimated that 1.5 million people died during the years of civil war between the state of Sudan and the southern separatists. The south eventually became an independent state, and now the two countries are on the brink of war again.

In 1976, Eric Bogle wrote a song about a nineteen year old who died during the First World War. This is an excerpt:

Did you really believe them when they told you "The Cause?"
Did you really believe that this war would end wars?
Well the suffering, the sorrow, the glory, the shame,
The killing, the dying, it was all done in vain.
For, young Willie McBride, it all happened again,
And again, and again, and again, and again.

Weird, isn’t it?
