An Avian Spat?

I saw two robins apparently talking to one another today. One was ‘speaking’ with the usual melodious song; the other was making a low, guttural, warbling sort of sound that I’ve never heard a robin make before. It sounded dismissive. I suspect the second was a cock bird, responding to his hen in the time-honoured manner.
