No need for the torch on tonight’s walk. The sky was clear
and the moon nearly full, and today’s gales had subsided by then.
Sarah’s cottage looks splendid when the full moon is in the
southern sky. It’s stucco rendered and painted a very light yellow, so the moon
lights up the gable end brilliantly while leaving the eastern aspect in shadow.
It evokes those old Victorian woodcuts and reminds me of my favourite ghost
stories by MR James.
