Night.

The thing in which you invest the greatest expectation is always likely to prove the greatest disappointment. Find the exception, and you have a rare treasure.

Alternatively, don’t expect anything.

There was an hour-long TV programme tonight about my home town. The rubbish they talked was mind-boggling.

That would still be pretty cool, to have your town featured on television. What kind of stuff did they talk about?
And your first sentence is very true. I didn't fully realize it until you said it, actually.

The BBC is currently running a series of hour-long programmes on the development of British ceramics from the 17thC to the present day. I happen to come from Stoke on Trent, which was the home of the Staffordshire pottery industry (Wedgwood, Royal Doulton, Spode etc.) There isn't a Staffordshire pottery industry any more, it's all moved to the cheap labour markets of the Far East. So my home town is now a broken down, ex-industrial wasteland. That's mostly what they talked about.
