I’ve often seen bats fly right up to the walls of the house
in warm weather, hover a little, then wheel and turn away again. I’ve seen
house martins do it, too, so I assume they’re catching flies and other insects
attracted to the heat of the brickwork.
This evening the bats were doing it to me, over and over
again. It was really quite spectacular, and not a little startling at times.
Presumably I had insects attracted to the heat of my body. I suppose insects
are the best I can hope for at my age, and if it brings the bats closer...

Bats in many indigenous cultures relate to the shaman who of course sees in the night. Attracting them I think is a very good thing.
Oh, good. They certainly come very close sometimes, and I wonder whether they like the fact that I talk to them.
