I was thinking tonight that my favourite among famous wits
is not Oscar Wilde, but WC Fields, probably because he’s a million miles less
pretentious.
(Forgive me, Philadelphia!)
I prefer to use my own words on my blog, but there’s one WC
Fields quotation (‘quote’ is a verb, by the way) that I could easily have written myself
since it isn’t one of his cleverer ones. So I’ll pretend I did.
The best cure for a
case of nerves is a case of scotch.
I thought of quoting the women
are like elephants joke, but decided I’m still young enough to value my
credentials.

This has made me want to find an old book i have with a transcript from one of Oscar Wilde's court cases. His answers are hillarious! I cry! haha... but i think the book is at my parents' house. I'll have to look up some WC Fields. I'm sure i've read some of his witticisms before. Another good one, i think, is Dorothy Parker.
I agree. Dorothy Parker is another favourite.
