Venus was missing tonight, and that bothered me. Venus is much
steadier than Mistress Moon and has been my constant companion for several
months. But then, when I was half way back, I turned again in hope and there
she was. The cloud had moved away and she shone as glorious as ever. And from
where I was standing, she appeared directly above the Lady Bella’s house.
I have to say there was an aura of Messianic gravitas about
the moment. Had I been a wise man, I would have nipped into the pub to see
whether they’d got a spare pot of myrrh they could let me have.
But I’m not a wise man, so I didn’t.
