I’ve no desire to lay waste to anybody’s treasured image of
the English rural idyll, but I thought you might like to know what the two
commonest sounds are after dark in these parts.
You might expect them to include the owl hooting from the
wood, the dog fox barking across the valley, or the snapping of twigs as little
furry creatures go about their nightly patrol. Nope. The two commonest sounds
are:
The rumble of planes going to and from East
Midlands Airport,
and the flatulence of horses in the fields.
