Indulging the Scriptwriter.

I just watched the last of the Agatha Christie’s Marple series. It had a scene in which a tour guide is taking a group of tourists around a stately home. She had the line:

‘The 6th Earl was famous for his extravagant balls.’

It could easily have been written differently, couldn’t it? So one has to wonder. Maybe he was no more impressed with the plausibility of Agatha Christie’s plots than I am. And I suppose somebody had the job of editing out the titters among the cast.

And in similar vein, I read a comment on an old post earlier. A woman who used to be a regular wrote:

'I like philosophical discussion as foreplay.'

The sort of scene evoked by that statement is more surreal than funny. Then again, I don't know...
