Election Epilogue.

I mentioned the other day that the landslide victory by the Scottish Nationalists up in Scotland (a massive 56 out of 59 seats) handed overall victory to the Tories, which is ironic because the Scots are not at all keen on the Blue Orcs. Today I read that Nicola Sturgeon, leader of the SNP, has been chivvying David Cameron to devolve more control over the Scottish welfare budget to the Scottish Assembly. That’s understandable, of course; she has a duty to protect her people and you can’t blame her for it. I doubt she will be successful, however, because the problem works both ways. Tories have never been quick to care about what happens to the little people at the top of the map, and since the divide between Tories and Scottish people is greater than ever, why should Cameron’s Westminster government start caring any more about them now? Time will tell.

I also mentioned in a pre-election post that there would be a danger of serious social unrest if the Tories won. Well, yesterday an anti-austerity rally in London produced a little social unrest. I gather it justified the term ‘mini riot.’ There was some violence in which a few policemen received minor injuries (emphasis on which is the media’s way of playing down the fact that the poor in Britain now need food banks) and a statue somewhere was daubed with ‘Tory Scum.’ It’s all very ugly, isn’t it? Social unrest always is. Even the Chartists did some pretty ugly things, and for pretty much the same reason. (How easily people forget the lessons of history.) No doubt the good people of Middle England will view the rioters as scum who need to be put in their place and taught a lesson, conveniently forgetting that riots don’t happen in a contented society where social justice is a high priority. Seems there’s ugliness on both sides.

I wonder whether this really will be an epilogue.
