She came to the fore because of that old ‘You’re too
sensitive’ thing. Let’s go over it again:
Dear Z (blessings be upon her) once asked me: ‘Do you think
it’s possible to be too sensitive?’
Answer: ‘No. First you would have to establish what the “correct”
level of sensitivity is. Who can do that, and does the concept have any
validity anyway? A person is as sensitive as a person is. That’s it.’
I’m so fond of that woman, you know. I am. She’s such a trier.
I judged her unreasonably harshly once when she came out of the charity sector
and went into advertising. She yelled at me. Quite right, too. I’m surplus to
requirements at the moment, but that’s just part of the role.
