Voices, Nocturnal and Diurnal.

Body language isn’t just about arms, legs and eyes. Strange as it may seem, it also includes voices.

Lately I’ve been struck by the voice of Nanci Griffith. It’s strong, but soft and southern. It’s the kind of voice you want to hear when it’s early morning, you’ve had four hours sleep, you have a hangover, and you’re in need of some tlc. That’s the elixir voice.

And then there’s the ZLM voice – also strong, but dark and enigmatic. A little uncertain sometimes, but assertive nonetheless. It speaks of Old Europe and the Levant. A Yankee voice, the sort you want to hear when it’s late and you’re trying to understand what the hell you’re doing on this damn fool excuse for a planet. That’s the voice I last heard in the early hours of 25th July 2013. I miss it.

And this post is the sort you make when it’s late, when the mattress beckons and the monkeys rest, when you know that you’ll wake up in a few hours time in need of an elixir…
