On Being Ignored.

I seem to remember once saying on this blog that I hate being ignored. Well actually, that isn’t entirely true.

As a kid I used to sit in the corner and try to blend in with the furniture. On one occasion my parents moved house and it was a week before they noticed that the kids’ bed in the new place hadn’t been slept in yet. I had mixed feelings about being picked up the following day.

I’m first and foremost an observer, you see, and I’ve found that one observes much more effectively if one is being ignored. One does, definitely. Besides, if people are aware of you they expect you to do things. I hate that.

(Part of this post was inspired by - though not copied from, heaven forbid - a Katherine Ryan standup routine.)
