Just a few minutes ago I was startled to hear the sound of jet
engines so loud they sounded as though a plane was passing over at tree top
height. About ten seconds later I heard another one. They were flying east,
which is the direction of the nearest airport – but that’s thirty miles away. I
waited for an almighty bang, but there was none. We haven’t gone to war and
nobody’s told me, have we?
