Out of Step and Cold.

I watched the CGI version of Beowulf tonight. It’s very impressive how they do that stuff, although they took a few big liberties with the original story. What I found really interesting, though, was the fact that they made the animated characters look like the actors who did the voices. And – surprise, surprise – it’s the only film I’ve seen in which I found Angelina Jolie sexy, or even good looking for that matter.

I think I must have unconventional tastes.

And I really must stop using the word ‘sexy’ in blog posts. It’s becoming tedious.

The temperature in my office tonight is 13C (55F) And that’s with the expensive storage heater on maximum.

Do you know what I'm going to say? Yes Jeff, do try to abstain from overuse of the word "sexy" because it's annoying, especially in connection to Angelina Jolie. Actually I also liked (? appreciated somewhat) the animated Beowulf film, but found the Jolie segments (which formed the biggest departure from the original story), annoying. But, whatever. I've never read the poem (so am not a purist), but think they might have toned down the 21st century-Hollywood-airbrushed-beauty-thing a bit for the sake of integrity to early Anglo-Saxon myth-making. Just a little. Just once.

Now I'm offended!

As if.

I find the same is true of nearly all films that supposedly have a basis in history, Della. I thought the same when I saw the publicity poster for Troy. And if you watch one of those classic 50's/60's historical or biblical epics, they just ooze Hollywood's idea of post-war glamour. There was a good two-part telling of the Battle of Hastings on Brit TV a year or so ago. They went for realism.

You know, honestly, I have never liked Angelina Jolie. There is something not so nice about her. Its maybe because of the whole Jen and Brad thing. But, still there is something seriously not nice about her.

Well, I know I shouldn't say unkind things, but I simply don't understand why she's regarded as physically beautiful. She looks like a cartoon fish to me. Poor woman can't help what she looks like, I know. It isn't her fault, but that's why I say I must be out of step.

As for her deeper qualities as a person, I don't take enough interest in celebrities to have an opinion.

And Hello Swati! Nice to see you. Thanks for popping in.

Physical beauty is subjective, too. she isn't beautiful in the obvious way. So, I won't call what you said as unkind but just your opinion.
I liked how you used the term "cartoon fish" for her. Aptly put. :)

And Hi. :)

Yes, many films about history, including those of the 1950's and 60's had it all backwards, I couldn't agree more. The film industry can do so much more nowadays with technical effects – among other things – it would just be nice if Hollywood especially at least went for the realism angle once in a while. I don't know about the Battle of Hastings T.V. movie you're talking about, but I like many BBC productions because they're not so polished (I enjoyed the last Jane Eyre, very much, in fact). Sorry, Jeff, didn't meant to offend, but like Swati, I find Angelina Jolie seriously not nice! :))

Swati: It's the lips! Shh...

Della: Offend? My motto:

'It is impossible to give offence. Offence can only be taken.'

I like it when you slap my wrists. Makes you feel like family!
