A Form of Wealth Creation.

It’s being alleged that the Australian government is paying people smugglers engaged in bringing would-be immigrants to the Land Down Under to turn around and take them back. Tony Abbot has apparently declined to deny that this is going on, saying only that his border control agencies are using ‘creative’ means to prevent illegal immigration.

Creative indeed, especially for the smugglers. What a neat little number they’ve got going. First they take money from a load of poor and desperate people who are prepared to take almost any risk to get somewhere that is greener and pleasanter than where they came from, and then the government pays them a second time to renege on the agreement.
