I watched a South Korean film last night called A Tale of Two Sisters. It’s billed as
horror, but I would say it’s more of a psychological drama. That much was
evident even before the surprise denouement.
On the plus side the atmosphere and character acting are
both superb. On the minus side the shock breaks are predictable and the sound
effects (squeaky tap heads, creaky door hinges, hollow footsteps etc) are badly
overdone. Overall, I would say the good outweighs the bad by quite some margin.
So was it one of those films that stayed with me into the
following day? Yes, and that has to be as good a recommendation as any.
World cinema is a gold mine, you know. Much of it knocks
most of what Hollywood
has to offer into a cocked hat.
