Still to Come.

Must make a post about The Dead Newt on My Doorstep when I’ve considered it further. I thought of Googling ‘Newts in folklore,’ but decided against it. Sometimes there are things it’s better not to know. And something – or someone – has filled in the rabbits’ bolt hole in my garden again. I wish I knew what – or who – does that, and so neatly too. It’s odd that this is happening while I’m editing my novel. You’d know what I mean if you’d read it.

Must go to bed early. Two alarm calls in two days. I’m going to be tired tomorrow night.

Well, one thing, newts are associated with the element of fire.

Oh wait... that's salamanders. Close enough. Actually i've always thought it was strange that salamanders are associated with fire considering how their skin dries out so quickly if they are away from water for some time.

We have no true salamanders native to Britain, and this was the right size to be the commonest of the newt species. According to my information, though, newts are supposed to spend their lives close to the breeding pond, and there are no ponds anywhere near here. So what was a dead one doing on my doorstep? It had no signs of injury whatsoever, so I'm sure it wasn't a cat kill.

Was the dea newt placed there purposely as an omen of things to come, or was he just killed by a stray cat?

If someone/something is filling in the hole's in the garden, I wouldn't bother him/her/it. Let them do the work! But I would leave a present of some kind for them as a way of saying thank you. Perhaps a wee bit of ale or some bread .....
Not real familiar with newts... I try to stay away from reptiles.

Emily: I've had several cats, and I've found that cat kills are invariably mangled. This little guy was completely intact and unmarked.

Jeanne: There are several mysteries surrounding the filling of this hole (it's happened twice now; it gets filled in and then the rabbit comes and digs it again.) One of them is where they get the soil from, because there's no evidence of any soil being disturbed anywhere in the garden.Fact is, there have been so many odd things going on lately that I'm becoming convinced something/someone is at least trying to alert me to their presence.
