Turning the Tables.
Sorry to be lavatorial again, but I was listening to something the other day about an early hot air balloon flight across the English Channel. It wasn’t going well, apparently. The balloon was losing altitude and high cliffs were looming. The occupants needed to get rid of every bit of weight they could, so they even sat on the edge of the basket and defecated as a last resort.

Question, Della. What do the Germans call the English Channel? Are they as keen as the French to deny English 'p0ssession?' And is the North Sea called the West Sea in Germany and Scandinavia?

sorry I haven't been commenting lately, I've been really busy, but I'll catch up, I promise!
And yes, extremely ironic. I don't know if defecating would really help much...
No worries. I haven't been commenting much either. I've been busy dealing with a bad mood, so I wouldn't bother catching up if I were you. And you've been obsessed with parties and morphing and stuff lately, which isn't my area of operation.
And the balloon did make it over the cliff, apparently.
Apparently the English Channel is called the Ärmelkanal, literally, the "sleeve" canal, presumably because of its shape. What do the Belgians call it I wonder? The North Sea is the Nordsee, same thing, but the Baltic Sea is the Oostsee (East Sea). The Mediterranean Sea is actually the Ligurisches Meer and I only know this because I'm presently looking at a map :) I'm not surprised other European countries do not use the translation of "English Channel," no matter how friendly we all are now in the EU :))
