Words, Food and Drying Paint.

The best compliment I ever received from an editor was:

‘If JJ Beazley wrote a story about watching paint dry, I bet it would be interesting.’

That made my day, it really did. I mean, could a scribbling type expect any higher accolade than that? Hardly, though I did realise that it wasn’t the sort of thing one should take literally...

No? Why not?

Guess what. I just started writing a story about watching paint dry. It might come to something, or it might not.

Something somebody said to me today reminded me that I’m no connoisseur when it comes to food. Words are my thing. ‘Effulgent’ is my crème brulee, ‘settee’ my old baked fish. I hate the word ‘settee.’

I woke up early today, full of tension. My computer is becoming crankier and the day has been desultory. But at least I appear to have done something to please the Lady Bella, which means more to me than being told I could write an interesting story about watching paint dry. And the little princess is back on song (she was unhappy and off her food recently.) Time for bed.

Oh, and it seems that one of my stories is to be included in a "best of" anthology. That's a first. Night.

Ta.

That's a thought. Would you leave 'The Rain Maiden' off your prospective list for CS, now that it's been specifically earmarked by another publisher? Thanks.

Yep.
