Two pictures of the south aspect.
This is the grave of Isabella, to whome I referred
in an earlier post here
I'm reliably assured that these marks close
to the main door were made by the local
men sharpening their arrows in the Middle
Ages. Unusually for northern England,
however, there appears to be no claim
that the culprit was Robin Hood. Neither
is there any story of an outsize cap that used
to hang in the church, having once been the
property of Little John!

The second is my favorite. The last is my favorite, hehe. I love remnants of things like that. I once saw a picture of an ancient wall in, i think, Jerusalem with the fingerprints of one of the workers who'd smoothed the mortar. It made my heart hurt with wanting to see it myself and put my hand in those prints.
It would be beautifully creepy to photograph that church and the graveyard during the fall, at twilight.
You have that urge to connect across the ages, don't you? Like I do. Like a lot of people do, I suppose.
I intend to take a look at it one night when there's a clear sky and a full moon. Looks like it's going to be cloudy for this month's moon, but one day.
Yes i do. I have always had a feeling since i was very small of connecting with things from the past. When i was about four i had a dream that took place by the ocean in a setting that looks like Greece. I also had a Sesame Street book that had a similar setting and it made me feel odd when i looked at it as a child. Familiar. Maybe a past life? I don't know. I was always fascinated by mediaeval things as a kid, too, and once i had a dream that i was in a mediaeval-ish town and a group of people held me up against a wall and stuck a hot poker into my mouth and into my tongue. It was very vivid and seemed real. I remember at one point being able to see myself only it wasn't a face i recognized. And i think i was in Germany or Holland. Not sure.
I think you would love Arthur Guirdham's book 'The Lake and the Castle' - and his two earlier ones 'We Are One Another' and 'Cathars and Reincarnation.'
