Connected by Space.
One of the bigger little thrills in my life was going into Hexham
Abbey in Northumberland and seeing the 9th century Anglo-Saxon chalice
they had on display there. It occurred to me that there must be countless such
chalices in the great museums of the world, but seeing something in a museum
isn’t quite the same as seeing it in the place where it was used. It somehow
brings you closer to the hands that held it.
