I decided to watch some of England’s
World Cup qualifier against Montenegro
while my dinner settled. Just before the match started, a camera picked up the England coach walking over to shake hands with
his Montenegro
counterpart. And then they showed a replay.

Replay Mania.
I don’t watch much football these days, but I have noticed
over recent years that the TV people seem to have developed a mania for action
replays. At one time you’d get maybe two wide-shot replays of a goal, and that
was about it. Now they have to have cameras tucked into every crevice, and we
get replays from at least five different angles, most of them repeated at least
once if not twice. It’s all becoming a bit silly in my opinion, but tonight it
became even sillier.
