I just saw one of the finest sights to be had anywhere in
the world at any time: a rain shower being backlit by the sun. Offhand, I can’t
think of anything which better represents the primal reality of physical life
than water glistening in sunlight. Even a mother bird feeding her chicks –
wondrous though it is – comes one stage further removed.
