Changing the God Program.

The modern world has given us new gods to replace the old. They include (first three off the top of my head)

The pre-eminence of youth and physical beauty.

The drive for material acquisition.

The pursuit of knowledge for its own sake, which encourages the often fraudulent practice of presenting speculation as fact.

I wonder whether the new gods have really made the generality of life better – on balance, that is. It’s obvious that they’re taking the human animal ever further from the undercurrent of its existence. But I also wonder whether it matters, if life is just a holodeck as I suspect it probably is.
