Syria: On Power and Platitudes.

Does anybody know what’s really going on in Syria? We hear the American hawks mouthing predictable platitudes; we hear the Russian hawks mouthing predictable platitudes in return; we hear the British poodle barking its own platitude in faithful support of its master; we hear the Syrian regime mouthing more predictable platitudes of self-righteous indignation; we hear the anti-government rebels cheering because they think they’ve now got Tomahawk cruise missiles on their side; and I expect the IS jihadists are looking for ways to capitalise on the situation.

It’s a mess, isn’t it? One almighty mess in which brutal psychopaths posture while ordinary people get blown to pieces and innocent children suffocate in the streets. And all we know or think we know comes from the media, and nobody with a grain of sense believes everything they get from the media.

So who or what is really on trial here? Trump? Putin? Assad? Islamism? All of them of course, but more than that. Human nature is on trial here. This sort of thing has been going on since time immemorial and is getting bigger and bigger as the world shrinks and the bangs grow louder.

It seems we need a new system which sends the power-obsessed to their own dark place while the dove of peace and humanity takes the top perch. Can you see it happening? Is there an angel in the house? I doubt it.
