So the Sheep May Safely Graze.

I was reading something tonight on the BBC website about the film director Ken Loach. It described him as a ‘lefty filmmaker.’

It seems that if you believe in social justice, the dissemination of truth, and a more equitable distribution of wealth, even a BBC journalist will label you a ‘lefty.’ ‘Lefty’ is one of those cheap, soundbite-for-the-masses terms, like ‘paedo’ and ‘perve,’ so beloved and relied upon by the crappier journalists. In this case, it means you’re at least a deluded fool, if not a dangerous subversive with a diseased mind.

I can’t help but be impressed by the skill with which the Establishment promotes its often tawdry agenda, nor can I help being saddened by the ease with which a whole nation is seduced by its propaganda. And isn’t it interesting that the term ‘do-gooder’ has become universally recognised as pejorative?

A comparison with sheep and sheepdogs springs to mind, but it would be inappropriate since sheepdogs are at least visible and honest.

There's a song called "Sheep May Safely Graze" that we're playing for our quartet. I wish the essence of your post was in it.

The Bach orchestral version has long been a favourite, Maria. I intended irony in using it as the post title.
