We had a dry day today; there was even some sunshine, even though the temperature stayed below freezing the whole day. The weather forecast said it would be dry overnight, so I stocked up the bird feeding stations at dusk as usual so they’d have something to eat before I get up in the morning.
And what did I find when I looked out of the window at 10 pm? Yet another healthy covering of snow that must have fallen while I was watching a TV programme. It meant that all the food I’d put out for the birds would be well covered and unavailable to them. At 10.30 I donned my winter coat and woolly hat to go and clear the snow off the food. Still snowing. Oh dear, better leave it until later then; hope it’s stopped and doesn’t start again before the morning.
If I lived in Norway, or Nepal, or half way up the Rockies in Nevada, I would be expecting this and be well prepared for it. But I don’t; I live in Ashbourne, bloody Derbyshire down in the lowlands of the allegedly temperate UK. We’re not supposed to have heavy snowfalls combined with sub-zero temperatures on seven consecutive days, and certainly not at this time of year!
I’m trying not to let this get on my nerves. No point, is there? I am trying.

But the header photo is beautiful and the grey background much more pleasing! We've had snow too, and unfortunately it's already becoming city sludge :(
That picture was taken in the next county, Della (my home one,) but the landscape here is similar - a few more hedgerow trees and an extra copse would make it about right.
It didn't snow again overnight. And see Update with Fanfare. I'm bit concerned, though, that my robin is missing today.
The background should be dark grey. Is it?
I see a light grey background, but it looks nice. The problem is strange. I've only recently registered with Google (because my blog is Wordpress), and found it really confusing. I'm now following some blogs – including yours I think – "twice" (my little picture is there twice) because Google couldn't import the original information. Bizarre.
I hope you find the robin.
Think I might try black, Della. I wondered why you and somebody else suddenly appeared a second time. I read another Wordpress blog and their comment form is awful. Even a simple edit is little short of a nightmare. Having said which, Google is far from infallible. Mr Robin was back this morning. Phew! He's been my pal for over two years now.
