Funny Old Bard.

One of my all time favourite quotations from Shakespeare is:

...the sheeted dead did squeak and gibber in the Roman streets.

I think it’s supposed to be creepy, but I find it hilarious. It evokes an image of draped women, arms a-flinging, going

‘SQUEEEEEK... squeak...squeak...squeak’

While the men shuffle along in chorus with

‘Gibbergibbergibbergibber.’

I’m sure Tim Burton could make a song and dance routine out of it.

It's got my cogs turning, fun with the squeaking, gibbering expired ones!
I'm blaming the squeaks on new sheets.

Oh dear, I just read that back and it sounds terrible. Always posting in haste!

I'm thinking:

Very black joke.

Ageing equipment.

Repenting at leisure with a cigarette.

Hahahahaha! That had me laughing, not an easy thing for me to do when I first wake up. I think old Willy would highly approve of your humour. And you mean there aren't people who don't laugh over black humour? How boring of them.!

He is noted for his sense of humour of course, Wendy, although a lot of it is oblique and unintelligible to modern readers. I wonder how many people understand the joke 'Green worts? Green cabbage!' It had to be explained to me. 'Exeunt, pursued by bear,' on the other hand, is more obvious.

Do explain more Jeff. I'd like you to post more about Shakespeare, your favorite quotes, thoughts and insights into him. Also for good measure, Oscar Wilde thrown in. Both were masters of double entendre. (Don't know how to type the accent with entendre, but I know you'll know what I meant._

I wouldn't feel qualified, Wendy. Shakesperian commentary is so ubiquitous that I think you have to be a scholar to contribute. Same with Osacr Wilde. No doubt the odd thing will crop up here and there, though. Especially if it's funny!
