The Twin Forces.

I was thinking tonight that the two most significant aspects of mortal life are sex and death. Alpha and Omega; the twin forces driving the wheel. I wonder if this is why the Vedic tradition so values celibacy, since the primary aim of Vedic spirituality is to find the way to get off the wheel.

I’m sure somebody else has said this, but I don’t know who.

Seems like this time of year causes one to ponder many things....

It does indeed. Like how to stop pondering and find a way to lose weight.

Huh, I woul've thought the drives were purpose and passion. Which include both death and sex. Death gives us reason to find purpose, and you can see where sex fits in.

This is only true if you subscribe to the one-life scenario, Maria. My spiritual search took me towards the Vedic tradition, in which birth and death are the pivotal points on the individual's continuous cycle. This makes much more sense to me. Given this view, it isn't the contemplation of death that drives the search for purpose, but the contemplation of existence on all levels and in all its forms.
