My coal delivery hasn’t arrived yet and I have only two or three days supply left, so I called the fuel company. The woman told me that the coalman is only delivering to houses on the main roads because he keeps getting stuck in the lanes. The best she could offer was ‘We’ll get to you eventually.’ Yup. Gotta love the snow.
A related matter:
I took a pot of home-made soup out of the freezer last night and left it in the kitchen to defrost. I just went to put half of it in a pan to heat through slowly while I’m rabbiting on to you lot. Guess what. It’s been standing in the kitchen for about seventeen hours and it’s still hard frozen.
An amusing side issue:
Word’s spell checker doesn’t recognise the verb ‘to rabbit’ (see above.) One of the alternatives it offers is ‘Rabbi Ting.’ Would he be a Chinese rabbi?
And on another lighter note:
I knew it would drag people in if I titled a post ‘BDSM.’ According to Google stats, it’s already at number 9 in the all time most-viewed posts list. Tee hee?
Going to check on the soup.

I hope you get your coal and some food soon! I would be livid if i were you... but maybe that is another cultural difference? I know that here where i live people would blow their top if they were told that the coal would only be delivered to homes on the main roads, or if they were told that there was no answer as to why the buses weren't running... but i guess we American's are spoiled rotten. We are. No guessing about it...
I don't mind the coal problem so much. If his vehicle won't cope with the snow, what can you do? These conditions occur so infrequently in Britain that we don't equip ourselves as we would if we got regular harsh winters. I'm more annoyed about the bus issue, but there's no point in yelling at some person in a call centre about it. Companies are notorious these days for protecting themselves by only being contactable through call centres. And the private, deregulated bus companies don't need to be popular because individual companies have a monopoly on individual routes.
And, of course, we Brits do have a bit of a reputation for being relatively laid back about difficulties. It's what got us through the bombing and severe rationing during the war. I suppose the Germans must be the same, because they ended up getting bombed even more than we did.
