There are rich people out there who look down on homeless bums as being not only inferior, but worthless. To my mind, that particular homeless bum stood a whole lot higher than a million millionaires sitting snug and smug in their Caribbean tax havens, wondering what pointless bit of material trivia they can find to buy next.

Comparing Values.
An e-mail correspondent told me a story tonight, about the time she and her fiancée were walking through the streets of Philadelphia one freezing winter’s night. They came upon a young homeless man sitting with his dog. They only had one blanket between them, and it was wrapped around the dog. The man explained that he was responsible for the animal, and he wanted to make sure it didn’t suffer any more than necessary.

that was a nice thing, the man on the street with the dog, did. i think it's 1 important life lesson, compassion for others even animals. i admire people like that. i guess it's easier to learn compassion in humility.
I think different people need to learn different lessons, Ace, depending on where they are, what comes easy, what comes hard etc. Compassion for animals was always easy for me; it was compassion for people that I used to find alien. And then I was introduced to Avalokateshvara. Things have changed since then.
