Dubious Lyrics.

As much as I love Susan McKeown’s voice and imaginative arrangements, she does sing some odd lyrics. Two examples:

My mother is dead
And will no more return.

Er... a given?

And then there’s:

Nor shall I sleep with any man
Until the day I die.

Beats BDSM, eh?

Songs usually focus more on the music rather than the words. That's why I love genius songs that get both right.

I think songs vary enormously, Maria. I love early Dylan songs, which were almost exclusively about the lyrics. On the other hand, I'm also very fond of some Irish and Scottish songs sung in Gaelic. In those, the sound of the words becomes part of the music.
