Australia.

Australia, Australia,
Oh how I see thee lie.
Resplendent in an azure sea, beneath an azure sky.

The day is still quite early there
The sun shines on your map
And even though you’re upside down, and I’m just talking crap,

Three ladies fair, with raven hair...

...It’s time I took a nap.

Goodnight, Aus. *Waves*

This is another one ripe for deletion. Sad old reprobate!

Why the sudden fascination with Australia?

I love this country, I truly do. It has been my home my whole life, and yet I'm thinking, perhaps we are seeing this place and its people in completely different perspectives. I see hostility clothed behind apathy. I see people being subsumed by a desire for a stable, economically sufficient lifestyle.

I see people helping not because it's the better, morally sound thing to do, but so they can boast that they give alms to the needy, so they can receive gratitude. I see selfishness. I see...

I don't see what you see.
But then again, maybe the world needs hopeful eyes like yours.

"azure" is such a beautiful word, isn't it Jeff? Soon I will tell you something about that word ... carpe diem.

Nadia: Thanks for visiting. I think what you're describing is pretty typical of people everywhere, especially the inhabitants of those rich western economies which encourage greed, self-interest, small-mindedness and a whole load of other negative characteristics. I am under no illusion that Australia is any different in that respect. In fact, an Australian who was spending some time over here told me once that Aus is even worse than Western Europe in the ways you describe. So I'm sure you're probably right. The reason for my sudden fascination with the place comes down to three words: Carmen, Jenny and Lucy (alpha order, of course.) I'm seeing it through rose-tinted specs, which is OK as long as I understand that. I really like your profile pic, BTW.

Hiya, Shay. Do tell. The Italian rugby team is nicknamed 'the Azzuri.' Has a different ring to it than 'the All Blacks,' don't you think?

The fact is, I never really gave Australia that much thought until I met you three. Now I find myself frequently wondering what time it is in Sydney.
