A Kindred Spirit.

The Parting Glass

Oh, all the money that e'er I spent,
I spent it in good company.
And all the harm that e’er I've done,
alas it was to none but me.
And all I've done for want of wit
to mem'ry now I can't recall;
So fill to me the parting glass,
Good night and joy be with you all.

Oh, all the comrades that e'er I had,
They are sorry for my going away.
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had,
They would wish me one more day to stay.
But since it falls unto my lot,
That I should rise and you should not,
I gently rise and I softly call,
Goodnight and joy be with you all.

Parting glass indeed, I expect to see you here same time tomorrow ;)
A good reminder in those lyrics though, thanks for posting that Jeff.

I like the music. And i'm hoping this doesn't mean you won't be blogging anymore!

Hmm, sounds like it, Andrea. All the best to you Jeff – it sounded like times were getting tough lately – especially with your home. I really hope things work out for you and that we'll hear from you again, in some way, soon.

Hi Jeff ♪ Thank you for sharing this beautiful song ... I've been familiar with only the Wailin Jenny's version of the song and it, too, is most lovely. Here is a youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4egb2gpIg4

Do you know what's odd, Shay? I was thinking about you earlier when I was down in the fey country at the bottom of my garden. And only about ten minutes before you left this comment, I picked up my guitar and warbled my own version of the song. My guitar, incidentally, has been playing itself today, which I'll probably post about later. I'll also listen to the AJ's version of the song later, too - when my bandwidth is free.

Like the new pic and truly hope you're well.

Jeff ... that is truly wild ... and do you know that I TOO broke out my guitar after listening to the song shortly ago and played this song the best I could ... yours and my electricities are sparking out toward one another on this March day ... I like that you thought of me while in your fey garden ... maybe the little feather whispered something out into the air for your ear to hear ... thanks for your good words and I forgot to send you a hug ... so here it is now!

JJ said...

Actually, Shay, the feather disappeared. I made a small hole in the quill, threaded some cotton through it, and hung it on a branch in such a way that the wind couldn't blow it off. It was there for several days, and then it was gone. The cotton is still there, but not the feather. I'm hoping some little person liked it enough to lay claim.

So now I've listened to the High Kings' and Wailin Jennys' versions of Parting Glass. Same song, three versions, all completely different, and all moving and beautiful. Isn't music just feckin' incredible? If ever there was a gift of the gods...

Shayna said...

Oh Jeff! How exciting. I am completely certain that that is what happened. (also, when I mentioned the feather to you, my feeling was that it was not there! wild, eh?)

and ... indeed, YES, about music! (a timely time to insert some notes:♪♫ ♪ ♫♪ ♫ ♪ ♫ ♪)

Wild indeed, Shay. Definitely a connection day today, I think.
